Los Caminantes (The Walkers)

“My passion is human life experiences,” says JRS Filmmaker Katherin Alfonso. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she used her skills behind the camera to capture powerful images of migrants and refugees as a storytelling tool for advocacy.

Thanks to her efforts, JRS has launched its first-ever humanitarian research documentary project, a six-part series called Los Caminantes in partnership with Jesuit Migrant Service/Peru, JRS Colombia, JRS Ecuador and PRM.

The series documents, in part, the thousands of Venezuelan migrants walking across Colombia due to lack of opportunities at home, with little to no reliable healthcare or basic necessities, and the ever-present fear of political persecution. They have no money to buy a return trip home, and no chance to use legal transport services, and face consistent xenophobic comments and prejudices.
